RE: Scan Guage II cause (s) tranny fault?

Actually the SC2 can send data to the PCM and does it all of the time. The OBD port doesn't just constantly sending data, it has to be requested by the device.
Here are my initial thoughts...
Have you tried clearing the tranny X-Gauage codes that you input? It's easy to offset one of those long strings and input an incorrect code.
Where did you get the tranny code that you programmed? Is it the correct command?
Did you check to make sure you were using the correct MODE? PWM vs CAN, Ford uses both.
And like ronfisherman said - check those pins to make sure nothing is damaged.

RE: Long Island To North Carolina

My favorite online mapping program is Google Maps mostly because once I create a route I can drag and drop it to different roads to see what impact it has on distance/time.
So for example this is the route that Google Maps initially created (562 mi – about 9 hours 17 mins).
But let's say you hate to go thru DC and even if it is longer, you'd ratehr go a different way. Simple point to the route and you'll see a little white dot appear - click and drag that to any other road and it will recalculate. So THIS route will take you thru the Chesapeak Tunnel (615 mi – about 11 hours 23 mins).
But then again, you'd rather go yet a more different way - so THIS route uses I81 (582 mi – about 9 hours 50 mins).
Once you're done playing round and you want to go back to the original route, just click the link on the left pane, just above the starting destination that says "via whatever route remove" or right click on the little white dot(s) and choose "Remove This Destination".
There a lot of othere features, so explore around - you may benefit form the 'Traffic' inforamtion that can be viewed because it includes construction zone.
Have a safe trip and please feel free to spend a bunch of money in my state... we need it! :)

RE: Campgrounds between Greenville, SC and Greensboro, NC

...
Out of curiosity, was there a specific reason for leaving Pinecone out? ...
Curt
There was no reason for leaving it out... I just wasn't aware of it. Now I know about it and its there.
This map is an ever evolving creature (I actually have several others as well). As I learn about more CGs, I add them - but at some point it will stop because it will stretch over too large of a geographical area to be readable. At that point, I'll probably take on the next metro area.
Safe travel!

RE: equalizer brand hitch

Just like with lug nuts, I check them regularly.
If it is a problem, buy a nother nut to go on each and run it up to the first nut (making a jamb nut). That should prevent it from comming loose in the future.

I created a Google Map that has most of the cg's in teh Charlotte Metro area (though not Pinecone) - it may be of some help.
On Edit: I have added Pinecone Campground to my Google Map.

RE: Ford v-10 cruise controll-downshifting>>

...
You're not hurting anything by clearing the memory. I don't understand what you're helping, either, but at least it can't hurt.
And that's kind of my point.
I just simply do it as part of my maintenance schedule and it don't hurt nuttin.
Thanks again Mark for your knowledge... it's always appreciated.

RE: Ford v-10 cruise controll-downshifting>>

Shift quality means how soft or harsh the shift is. It has nothing to do with what speed or load the shift occurs at.
The PCM reboots every time the key is turned on. What you are doing by removing the battery cable is deleting the "learning" that the computer has done. The engine (gas only) learns minor fuel and spark changes to get the engine to run as close to the programmed ideal as possible. The trans "learns" the correct pressures to make each shift as close to the ideal shift quality that has been programmed in.
Thanks for the input Mark... I totally respect you knowledge and insight.
I knew this procedure did not make dramatic changes, but I figured that I since I change my oil with the seasons and therefore gas blends, it was beneficial for the engine - though not dramatic.
As far as the tranny changes, I usually only notice a difference for a short while and then it seems to smooth back out. I usually like to do this just before a long towing trip. For example, we'll travel to Fla this summer, since my wife drives the X locally all of the time and I drive when we are towing - it's erasing her 'habits' and learning mine.

RE: Ford v-10 cruise controll-downshifting>>

I usually do this after each oil change... disconnect the Neg (-) battery terminal, then turn the headlamp switch to on. I leave it sitting for 15-20 minutes, then turn off the headlamp switch and reconnect the battery terminal.
I can tell a difference after I perform this procedure. For the next 50-100 miles, the tranny seems to shift very differently... then it stettles down to 'normal'.
Does it make a 'real' difference... I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's not hurting anything and it definately doesn't cost anything. Beside, every computer needs to be re-booted fomr time-to-time... a trucks PCM should be no different.

RE: Pigeon Forge TN - Dollywood

Another vote for Twin Creek and we have 2 kids (8 & 2). They throughly enjoyed the CG. Great pool, nice (but small) playground and an arcade (again small, maybe 4 games). Most of the time we were out sight seeing (I really recnmend Cades Cove, but go early AM).
A few things that I really liked - there is a Trolly stop at the CG entrance, a grocery store just down the block (walking distance) and best of all, it's just outside of the 'traffic zone'.
We're going back next July.
Here's a Google Mpa for Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge that I made last year while were we selecting a campgournd. You can see all of the 'top rated' (based on the TL Directory and Good Sams ratings). I also included addresses and a link to thier websites where availabe.

RE: NC State Fairgrounds

We stayed there back in May '06. The section we were in was pretty much a parking lot, but graveled and with full hookups (I have a pic some where if I can dig it up). Please don't take that as a bad thing - we were there for a weekend event and it was first come first serve.
Walking around the sites (and they are scattered all over), I saw many nice ones (esp the ones on the side of the FG near NC State Univ).
I would think the site you get really depends on what else is going on at the fairgrounds when you go.

You mean the "Bottle of Chardonnay"?
Only true Woot-ers know what a BoC is and I'm not telling!
Want a Screaming Woot Monkey, we have a few tribes of them and a few BoCs too. However I do need a new F5 key after finding Woot!

RE: Ford v-10 cruise controll-downshifting>>

It sounds about the same way mine acts when using cruise while towing. I do the same as you and just 'help it along' when I feel it should be in a different gear (up or down).
In reality, your biggest concern should be tranny temps - if you don;t have a temp gauge, then get one. I bought a ScanGauge and love it - it will monitor anything available to the PCM, engine temp, tranny temp, MPG, HP Produced, and tons of trip info. Well worth the $150 I spent for it. Oh, and tell DH that the V10 likes to rev hi, that is where it's most efficient power band is. When I pulled thru Fancy Gap, VA, I would hit >4000 RPMs.
On my old F150 (4r70 tranny) I had a SuperChips programmer. With it I could adjust shift points (when it shifts) and shift pressures (how hard it shifts). It made quite a difference when towing, a lot of times when it down shifted to climb, it would shift back up just after cresting the grade. When I got the V10 powered X, i tried using it and it just didn't seem to make much of a difference; but then again, I had a 5000# TT then, I wonder if it would make a difference with my 9000# TT... hmmmm.
Other than trying a chip, then next option would be to mechanically change the tranny with different internals... but that can get costly.

RE: Refurbished?

Like Y-Guy, the first site I go to every morning is Woot. I'm an avid advocate of refurbs, and have never been stung.
Most of the stuff you get looks and acts new. I've bought two Acer Desktops, and both still had all the clear wrap on them, and the keyboard and mouse had never been touched.
I've bought several Sansa MP3 players that also looked untouched.
SShhhhh... don't give our secret away, then I'll never get anything from a Woot-Off! I keep missing out on the 'BoC' as it stands.

RE: Using windshield washer antifreeze in drain traps.

I think as long as you are only using it in the drains, you'll be fine. For the fresh water lines, I usually just drain and blow them out... I don't use any antifreeze in them. If all of hte water is gone, there is nothing to freeze.

RE: Refurbished?

I susally prefer refurb's (with a MFG warrenty). The way I look at it, an individual person has repaired and tested the item. With a new item, it rolls down an assembly line and they only inspect/test 1 out of ?.
I've gotten a lot of hi end electronics for great deals and I've never had a problem from one of them. I usually look for a 1 yr warrenty just in case - most of the time I can find the warrenty at no additional cost (offered at with purchase), but a few I've spent $20 or so for the warrenty.

RE: Pigeon Forge to Maggie Valley

If you're comfprtable with steep grades and winding roads, you could take 441 stright thru the Great Smokey Mtn NP and then pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway to US19 and you're there.
I know several folks that have done this - some say they'd do again and some say they would rather drive to Atlanta to avoid it.
If you're not comfortable with the roads/grades, then Terryallan has the route you should take.

Yes it does and I strongly recommend this campground. We had a group even there (a bunch of Excursion owners) and we had a blast. A great campground, clean facilities and super staff/owners.
